[ubuntu] vinagre vnc color depth

Hello i am using vnc a lot to administrate my systems.
With 8.04 the standard vnc client is vinagre. I want to know how you can set the amount of colors to lets say 256. So far i didnt find out how to do that. And since i am connecting to external servers by the internet a full color vnc is terribly slow.
Are there any alternative good vnc clients in the repository?

Tightvnc is very good if you have used the tightvnc server as it has features specifically for low bandwidth connections. It has many configuration options some of which are probably applicable to any vnc server. To lower bandwidth requirements I always have the user set the resolution to 800x600.
